Welcome back family! Its your brother Clint D. Johnson reminding that the God we serve is awesome! Let's dive into to the second installment for 2020 of Creative to the Core Blog and Digital Journal, where we explore art and more. Our focus at CTTC is the pursuit, exploration, and interaction of the realm of creative endeavors. Slip on and lace up as I continue my recall of this fantastic memory lane journey: Chronicles of the Faith Walker 30 Year Celebration. The first Faith Walker comic strip appeared in a 1990 edition of the Los Angeles Community Circle Clipper In 1990 I made 27, George H. W. Bush was president of the USA, Home Alone, Pulp Fiction, Dick Tracy and Die Hard were in theaters. Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinéad O'Connor, Vision of Love by Mariah Carey, I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston were dominating the pop charts, a gallon of gas was about $1.15, and Faith Walker was conceived. While sitting in a World Won for Christ Ministries service, that particular Sunday morning in 1990, the fiery sermon from Bishop Wayne S. Davis served as an inspiration as the word was processed through a comic book mind. The seed for a scripture quoting comic character began to germinate. I had roughed a few designs in my tablet, until landing on a clergy robe adorned with a cross that stretched the length of his garment. Being a bit style conscious, Faith Walker was originally given a faded flat top haircut and two-tone Gergio Brutini shoes...yes! "The seed for a scripture quoting comic character began to germinate." In order to take the Faith Walker to the next level, the printed page was key. I reconnected with writer/publisher Annie Pierce, who produced a publication called the Los Community Circle Clipper. I had met Ms. Piece in my teens and had created art for her on several occasions. She had published earlier works of mine in the past; a superhero/sci-fi comic strip. In Faith Walker's original tone, the premise was a street minister using the scripture from the Bible to combat and bring a grounded perspective to his environment. She was happy to see that I was creating content with more redeeming values. Annie was excited for me and allowed a platform for Faith Walker in the pages of the Community Circle Clipper. Wow! God had opened a door that would impact my life for years to come. This was the beginning of the first four amazing years. This set in motion a series of events...catch me next week as I share more about the progression of the Faith Walker. Be on the look out for the launch of Faith Walker First Steps: Classic Comics from the Vault to hit the internet first Friday in February and shortly after a printed book of the same name. Until next time, keep the Faith! Special thanks to Michele D. McIntyre AKA Chel E. Mac for edits.
